Essa altera\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 causada por uma muta\u00e7\u00e3o espec\u00edfica no gene da cadeia beta da hemoglobina, onde o amino\u00e1cido glut\u00e2mico \u00e9 substitu\u00eddo por lisina na posi\u00e7\u00e3o 6 da cadeia beta.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Essa mudan\u00e7a resulta na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de hemoglobina C, que pode formar cristais dentro dos gl\u00f3bulos vermelhos em determinadas condi\u00e7\u00f5es, prejudicando sua fun\u00e7\u00e3o normal de transporte de oxig\u00eanio. Existem tr\u00eas hapl\u00f3tipos descritos: CI, CII e CIII. A frequ\u00eancia desses polimorfismos sugere uma poss\u00edvel vantagem seletiva para os portadores heterozigotos, como uma menor parasitemia por Plasmodium falciparum, embora n\u00e3o t\u00e3o evidente quanto a conferida pela hemoglobina S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A hemoglobina C altera a troca de \u00edons pela membrana das hem\u00e1cias e modifica sua forma, resultando em c\u00e9lulas em alvo, microcitose, hipocromia e esfer\u00f3citos no esfrega\u00e7o sangu\u00edneo. Fonte: Atlas Hemato UFG.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As manifesta\u00e7\u00f5es cl\u00ednicas e laboratoriais significativas geralmente ocorrem em indiv\u00edduos com heran\u00e7a homozig\u00f3tica (CC) ou em associa\u00e7\u00e3o com a HbS (SC) e talassemias. Portadores do tra\u00e7o C (HbC &lt; 50%) s\u00e3o assintom\u00e1ticos e n\u00e3o apresentam anemia ou altera\u00e7\u00e3o do VCM, embora possam ser observadas hem\u00e1cias em alvo no esfrega\u00e7o sangu\u00edneo. Em contraste, os homozigotos (CC) apresentam anemia microc\u00edtica de intensidade leve, esplenomegalia moderada e frequentes hem\u00e1cias em alvo, al\u00e9m de ocasionalmente cristais de HbC. Na associa\u00e7\u00e3o entre HbC e talassemia beta (HbCF), ocorre anemia microc\u00edtica e hipocr\u00f4mica de grau discreto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A hemoglobina C possui uma afinidade ligeiramente reduzida pelo oxig\u00eanio. As varia\u00e7\u00f5es de volume devido a altera\u00e7\u00f5es na press\u00e3o osm\u00f3tica s\u00e3o sutis, e a lise osm\u00f3tica ocorre em valores de VCM menores do que nas c\u00e9lulas normais com hemoglobina A (Hb A). Isso se deve \u00e0 redu\u00e7\u00e3o da fragilidade osm\u00f3tica, resultante do aumento da rela\u00e7\u00e3o superf\u00edcie-volume celular, uma vez que a c\u00e9lula se desidrata e a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de hemoglobina corpuscular m\u00e9dia (CHCM) se eleva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Embora menos comum que outras condi\u00e7\u00f5es, como a doen\u00e7a falciforme, a hemoglobinopatia C apresenta desafios cl\u00ednicos significativos, especialmente em regi\u00f5es onde \u00e9 mais prevalente. O diagn\u00f3stico e a gest\u00e3o adequados s\u00e3o essenciais para prevenir complica\u00e7\u00f5es e melhorar a qualidade de vida dos afetados.
